Concussion Education: concussion education becomes more and more important each day. As researchers, we are still learning about concussions daily. Concussions are different than other injuries, one cannot see the amount of damage to the brain once a concussion is sustained. It is important to take any concussion, whether mild or severe, seriously. In simplest terms, a concussion is an injury to the brain. When one or more symptoms are present, it is important to take the necessary steps to ensure a safe recovery occurs. Below is more information on concussions.

TSSAA Concussion Policy
With any concussion, after clearance by M.D., D.O, or Neurologist, student athletes will follow a 6 phase return to play protocol. Athletes may move on to next step if symptoms do not return within 24 hours:
Phase “0” – cognitive exertion
Phase 1 – aerobic exerion
Phase 2 – functional testing progression
Phase 3 – sport specific exertion
Phase 4 – limited drills and non-contact practice
Phase 5 – full participation without restrictions
