What is an Athletic Trainer? According to the National Athletic Trainers' Association, "Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions."
Athletic trainers traditionally work with athletes at different skill levels. However, the field of athletic training is expanding. Athletic trainers can be found in the following settings: Colleges/Universities, Hospital and Clinical, Military, Occupational Health, Performing Arts, Physician Extender, Professional Sports, Public Safety, and Secondary Schools.

Athletic Trainers are grouped under the umbrella of Sports Medicine. We work closely with a team physician, physical therapists, nutritionists, certified strength and conditioning specialists, and the list can go on and on. Here at Northwest, we are lucky enough at the high school level to say we have one team physician dedicated to helping our student athletes. His name is Dr. Jason Jones from Seven Springs Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. This partnership is still relatively new, beginning in April 2014. I will always refer student athletes to see Dr. Jones first, but parents are always welcome to see the physician they prefer. More information for Dr. Jones is located under the "Partners" tab.
We also have a partnership with STAR Physical Therapy, which is where I am employed from. After a student athlete has seen an orthopedic physician and physical therapy has been recommended, STAR will be the company I will refer an athlete to, however, parents are always welcome to see a physical therapist they prefer. We have three locations in Clarksville to serve you. Keeping student athletes within Seven Springs and STAR will allow for easier communication and a smoother recovery with these relationships established. More information for STAR Physical Therapy is located under the "Partners" tab.
